The Current Surge Into Retirement –
The Boomer Health Institute is devoted to improving the life of baby boomers outside of the office. Therefore, our focus is on the things in life that really matter – our physical health, our mental sharpness, our reassessment of the direction of our life, our creation of new dreams / new talents / new passions and a new world for ourselves and our families, a re-evaluation of our connection to each other and to God, and a commitment to leaving a better legacy. However, even with this bias, we continue to focus Fridays on retirement issues and financial challenges. For the great majority of Americans, these issues cannot be avoided. Here is an article that announces that baby boomers, after a delay from the stock market crash and subsequent depression, are now retiring in droves. Here is another article that offers suggestions for how to jump start your retirement. However, if you are included in this group that is moving toward retirement, then I would encourage you to read the Boomer Survivor Kit and our 80+ blogs. Now is the time to pause, reset, and create a far better future. Let us offer some guidance for the other facets of your life – beyond just our finances.
Our Financial and Life Challenges –
For those baby boomers who are still struggling with the challenge of future retirement, here are some articles that might help you clarify our choices. This first article addresses the many challenges with a retirement at age 65. The second article highlights some of the myths of retirement and the need to adjust our planning. The third article offers some warnings for retirement without sufficient planning. All of these articles focus on the need for financial planning and the challenges within that planning. We would like to counter that the other challenges — how to shift our life toward a new direction, how to develop new passions and interests, how to reconnect with family, friends, and cohorts, and now to maintain your physical and emotional health — are just as important. So, combine the financial information within these articles with the desire to make more of your life, especially with your new freedom. Do not waste it. Do not simply jump into a bucket list. Give some thought to what makes you happy. Give some consideration as to how you can still contribute, not just consume. In short, think of what you can give, not just get. Best wishes …
